About the series:

Since march 2011, Ohrengala is a regular experimental serie organised at Bei Roy and curated by CoCo. The main idea of the series was to bring a wide spectrum of musicians and sound concepts in a monthly event mixture of electroacoustic, conceptual improvisation and noise music... Bei Roy is not the typical venue only for experimental music. It's a chance to offer interested people this form of music in a hopefully good way. After an invitation to join the series as collaborators in february 2012, Julian Bonequi and Audition supported the Ohrengala series as promoters and associated curators.

CLIFFORD TORUS | Anders Hana, Horacio Pollard & Kjetil Brandsdal

Anders Hana [NO], drums (MoHa!, Ultralyd, ...)
Horacio Pollard [UK], guitar/vocs
Kjetil Brandsdal (Noxagt)[NO], baritone guitar.

LIGHTBRINGER | Marcelo Aguirre

Solo piece of Marcelo Aguirre [AR], drums & voice

From the chilling depths of hell, descending below the obscure pits of the unknown, lie the pulverized bones of a formless, hideous creature floating a million years light away on the realms of darkness…. One hour of pitch black ambience, one-directional, primitive, paralyzed on a trip of slow violence with no return.

NMO | Morten J. Olsen & Pato

Navnlaust Mønster Opptog is the new project of the norwegian drummer and percussionist Morten J. Olsen [NO] (drums, mixer | MoHa!, Ultralyd, Splitter Orchester ...)) , with the electronic catalan musician and sound artist Ruben Patino (Pato) [SP] (laptop, mixer)

Their project joint blending acoustic sounds with other computer generated and explores the boundaries of repetitive structures and spatialisation of sound. The slide works are characterized by a style that is both algorithmic composition hiperenergètic and irreverent.

MAT POGO | vocals

Mat Pogo his solo set features his voice, a microphone and some electronics devices. Pogo developed his own language as a singer/voice-artist using his experience as a rock singer, an improviser and radio-artist where music, sounds, anecdotic and narrative elements fuse constantly. Weird processed vocal eruptions, intense screams, occasional words, pitched mouth cavity noises and electronics textures melting together in a very expressive way and often with a delicate sense of humor.

A very active musician in the music scene of Berlin and rest of Europe, frontman of Jealousy Party, Pokemachine with Anders Hana, duet with Ignaz Schick, B Unit with Peter Schlewinski and Jd Zazie, Penates, member of the N.E.E.M. Orchestra, Sistemi Audiofobici Burp (dj collective), founder member of Burp Enterprise...

TRISTAN HONSINGER [US] | cello/voice (1949 Vermont). According to Dutch Volkskrant journalist Erik van de Berg, "Honsinger is someone who hasn't lost his childhood fantasy entirely. His compositions are like a child's drawing, or even more like a story from Winnie The Pooh: awkward and touchingly simple, yet full of deeper meanings for those who want to see them." In the same article, Honsinger commented: "Simple things fascinate me, simple stories and simple characters. It's not that I write for children in particular, but I think they would understand it very well..."

KLAUS KÜRVERS [DE] | (contrabass) born 1950 in Essen (Germany), doublebass studies 1964-68 among others with Peter Trunk. During the late sixties member of the Essen Youth Symphony Orchestra and also at the same time of different amateur Jazz groups (“Free Jazz” since 1967); 1969-71 in Cologne with the Jazz-Rock-Group “Eiliff” (w/Rainer Brüninghaus). DAS APPARAT

Das Apparat "is a powerful trio while subtle that blends the tradition of jazz and electroacoustic-free-folk music into improvisations of ascendent grooves & multinstrumental catharsis in real time."

ZEGER VANDENBUSSCHE [BE] (saxophone and bass clarinet) studied at the royal conservatory of Gent, Belgium. Being an active member of the Belgian jazz and improvisational music scene, he toured in Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, playing reed instruments and double bass.

JULIUS HOLTZ [DE] (turntable) found an old turntable on the street at the age of fifteen. He plugged it into his hi-fi amplifier, started to scratch and did fadings with the volume knob. His parents were surprised by the strange noise coming from his room but the professors at the Berlin University of the Arts liked his work and so he studied sound.

JULIAN BONEQUI [MX] (amplified drums and voice) started into music working with improvisers and inmerse in the experimental music scene since 1995 in Mexico City. ANNETTE KREBS

Kazue Taguchi and Annette Krebs will perform together a premiere for Ohrengala. It will be a live performance installation for one speaker with light/shadowstructures and objects moving slowly through the room.

KAZUE TAGUCHI

Kazue Taguchi, born in Japan, lives and works in Berlin. In 1997 she finished her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Oilpainting and Lithograph Print in Japan. And in 2007 studied the Master of Fine Arts, Glass, at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
"Kazue Taguchi's art and objects are a beautiful question in light and shadow with which she works in an impressive way. Her objects could range from massive to fragil metal and other material she decide to use for each installation, giving new meanings and creating new abstract light-situations of space magic and a own special world. We are looking forward to be with her flying shadows"

DJ SNIFF [Takuro Mizuta Lippit ] | DJing

His musical work builds upon a distinct practice that combines DJing, instrument design and free improvisation. He is interested in how a mediated musical memory, from archival collections of vinyl records to digitally captured sound events during a performance, can be used to create a new sonic reality that emerges through the fleeting notion of the "now." This pursuit has led him to create customized instruments that allow him to intuitively access and re-play these different temporalities ingrained in our listening consciousness. His live performances range from carefully constructed solo sets to improvisational groups with virtuosic instrumentalists.

OKKYUNG LEE | Cello

Native of Korea, has been developing her own voice in a contemporary cello performance & improvisation with her solid classical training as a foundation, she incorporates jazz, sounds, korean traditional music, and noise with extended techniques to create her unique blend of music.

PÄR THÖRN | Solo

Pär Thörn is originally a poet but has during the last years started working with improvised music and sound art. He want’s to emphasize the mechanical and material aspects of the taperecorder and the unsecure element in the use of radio. His record Schöneberg/Stammheim/Gärdet/Rågsved got nominated as the best Swedish experimental music record during 2008. He has performed with among others Leif Elggren, Keith Rowe, Charles Bernstein, Lina Selander, Amit Sen and Martin Küchen. Based in Malmö before, Pär recently moved to Berlin.

JD ZAZIE | dj set

Born in Bolzano, JD Zazie is an italian sound artist and recordist based in Berlin. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored over the years different approaches of real-time manipulation on fixed recorded sound.

LOUP (FR) | BEST BEFORE UNU (GR)

LOUP () BEST BEFORE UNU (DE)
Electronics, drums and sax Live animation & electronics

LOUP: Clement Edouard & Sheik Anorak
"LOUP started in early june 2010. This duo was born to play with Rangda (Chris Corsano, Ben Chasny and Sir Richard Bishop) at Grnd Zero in Lyon on june 8th 2010. I (Sheik Anorak) was supposed to improvised with other musicians from Grnd Zero as an opening for Rangda, but instead I asked Clement to start a new improv/free jazz duo. And then LOUP was born".

LOUP can be considered as an avant-garde free jazz duo. The meeting of jazz background (Clement Edouard) and noise (Sheik Anorak). LOUP is beyond jazz and beyond noise, something like a link between comtemporary music, free jazz and art....something like"comtemporary art/jazz".

BEST BEFORE UNU
"Intensive electronics found a visual counterpoint in the moving images, generating complex sonic-visual formations. While audio frequencies are analysed and passed into image motions, which in turn feed back to the music, a never ending circulation of influence travels in both directions. A journey through morphing landscapes and imaginary organisms, stimulating the audience to continuously perceive new associations."

ANDRE VIDA | tbc (HH) | BENJAMIN L. AMAN

ANDRE VIDA (US) tbc (HH) (DE) BENJAMIN L. AMAN (FR)
Saxophone No Input Mixer Recordings
(All images are copyrighted by their respective copyright owners)

ANDRE VIDA

Andre Vida (b.1974) is a Hungarian American saxophonist, composer and lyricist living in Berlin. Vida has been at the forefront of several major developments in experimental music, including his membership in Anthony Braxton’s original Ghost Trance Ensemble, his recent world record of 403 half hour performances at the Serpentine Gallery responding to Anri Sala's film Long Sorrow, performances with The Tower Recordings, and his extensive collaborations with electronic music visionaries Jamie Lidell, Tim Exile, Kevin Blechdom, and Rashad Becker.

Vida has developed a series of philosophical approaches to improvisation using restrictive costumes, animated graphics based score installations, and self made instruments. His solo saxophone pieces are the culmination of this focused improvisational thought, combining the theatrical aspects of his body, instrument, and voice.

For his Ohrengala performance Vida will extend his experiments with physical restriction by integrating a simple touch of preconceived structures in collaboration with Letizia Monae.

Recently he presented 'Brud: Volumes I-III' (PAN 20), a three volume compilation of recordings from 1995 to 2011 now available at PAN label, morphing seamlessly between a sense of total irreverence and the sublime.

tbc (HH)

"tbc is Thomas Beck (ex-H64), operator of the Hamburg based Wachsender Prozess label and long-established sound artist, known from several solo releases, "mail music projects" and collaborations with Brume, Asmus Tietchens, Das Synthetische Mischgewebe, etc, during the past 15+ years."

tbc started in the early 80's to make his own sound as H 6 4. Franz de Waard of Vital called his music as some of the hardest music in Europe. Activities in the Cassettemusicscene with two Labels (DDT-Tapes and EX) and also in the so called Mailart Network.

Running "Wachsender Prozess" with smartman Stickel: for noise culture based sounds. Together with Günter Reznicek (Nova Huta) und Felix Knoth (Felix Kubin, Klangkrieg) they publish the magazine (Odradek) about Electroacoustic and Electronic Music.

About his music: "a methodical landscape constructed via fieldrecordings (no input mixer), composed elements and a consequent forms of creating noise walls with different inner structured fine tones. "

For Ohrengala, Tbc will offer a surrealistic, electro-acoustic harsh noise piece. It ranges from the disharmonic to the harmonics of spiritual high level to the idiotic machine music, in which the machine is a symbol of godlike perfection."

BENJAMIN L. AMAN

A french sound & visual artist born in Rouen. Through different medias : drawings, installations, recordings, writings, actions, Aman's work finds its place in between different levels of perception, combining a physical, a mental and an emotional approach. As a sound performer Aman uses analog electronics, tape works, lights, space, actions, and static compositions, considering the live situation as a blank sheet of paper.

For Ohrengala, Aman will show a new piece called AG 30-320, a work exploring space by using action and confrontation as a princip of resistance. AG 30-320 intends to define limits between different states of consciousness and psychogeographical disorders, using sound as a princip of gravity.
