Recorded by Pablo Rega at Robadors 23, Barcelona on March 25th 2010IED8 | LIVE AT 23 ROBADORS.
We turn back to Spain with one of the strongest ensembles working in Barcelona.
IED8( Improvised Explosive Device Octet ) is an aggressive cell full of contrasts and provocation that fills an important stylistic gap in the jazz and improvised music scene in Barcelona with explorations of the savage and the free. Formed mostly by members of the Banda d’Improvisadors of Barcelona - BIB. This octet was born with the idea of investigating both the possibilities of the instrument and of musical form. For this purpose, IED8 have committed to working in several directions: first, conduction and (sometimes spontaneous) composition and second, free improvisation with influences from free jazz, contemporary music and noise. The result is fed by the different backgrounds of IED8′s members, such as the contemporary jazz provided by Dani Domínguez and Albert Cirera, post rock from the hand of Javier Garcia (ex12twelve), Pablo Rega’s experience in conduction (director of BIB and OMEGA Orchestra) and the free improvisation of Tom Chant (Decentred, Marseille Figs) an active member of the London scene.
